Solar Oven Projects in Tanzania

OUR VISION

SunCatchers is a UK registered charity working in Tanzania to develop the 'solar cooking' concept as a safe, economical & sustainable alternative to traditional ‘wood fuel cooking’.

SOLAR OVENS

SunCatchers 'solar ovens' offer an integrated solution to the 3-fold crisis Tanzania faces - and can meaningfully contribute to global environmental efforts.

TANZANIA'S 3-FOLD CRISIS:

  Poverty, Health & Environment

Wood fuel
cooking exposes
households (especially
women & children) to significant fire
hazards & air
pollution.

Wood fuel
cooking increases
both deforestation &
greenhouse gas emissions
– both critical factors
in global warming &
climate change.

High inflation
costs are causing serious
malnutrition – especially
infant malnutrition - with impoverished families
unable to afford
nutritious food nor
wood-fuel costs.

SUNCATCHERS' INTEGRATED SOLUTION

HEALTH

Reduced exposure to
indoor smoke particles & fire burns

ENVIRONMENT

Contribute to reducing deforestation
& greenhouse gases

POVERTY

Reduce malnutrition by
making cooking affordable
for all
